Nutramare Koi Food Trial

For the past 5 years of my koi dealing venture, I must've tried every food currently available on the UK food market. JPD, Aqua Source, FD, Takazumi, Coppens, Evolution Aqua and of course Saki Hikari just to name a few. Over the past 18 months, price increases across the board have seen the price of specialist koi food hit an all time high. As a dealer, there is a responsibility to feed an adequate amount of food to your stock, this is a principle I feel is overlooked and customers often turn a blind eye, but to me it is unacceptable to give stock lesser treatment than you would your own pets.

Over 5 years of testing, the clear winner for koi food was saki hikari, this is an obvious statement and should be a given due to the price point. However, it's not all about feeding the absolute best, along with the high quality ingredients comes a price point which is unattainable for the majority of koi keepers I speak to. A good middle ground is JPD which is an extremely popular food and per KG is a strong saving in comparison to Saki Hikari.

In 2024, a new food came across my desk called Nutramare. Designed in Germany by David Otto whilst at university, the food made bold promises at a reasonable price, but supply was an issue as the UK market didn't have a distributor. The idea of using the food was shelved for the time being and more saki hikari was purchased and fed to all my stock.

Up steps Dan Adams, a well known UK hobbyist who decided to stick his neck on the line and order an ambitious amount of Nutramare to feed initially to his own stock, but with a view to start distribution within a local koi club. After hearing his views and the reviews from other hobbyists trialling the food, I got in touch and secured a few months worth of stock for myself to give it a true and proper test. After a week of feeding, the stock ponds seemed to lose the tea staining in the water which I have always had issues with, and the fish were enjoying the food. The food is only to be sold directly through the Nutramare UK website and to my knowledge won't be sold in any brick and mortar stores in the UK.

Speaking with Dan further about the food, it is clear that he is passionate about his koi and the food as a whole, this isn't just a sales pitch, he's a genuine and honest koi keeper who wants the best for his fish. He elaborated on his passion by explaining how the food has been fed by some of the most elite hobbyists in 2024, where their koi have picked up some major awards at koi shows up and down the country. The food itself has been fed by Steel City Koi for around 6 months and will be the sole food which is being fed to our stock looking to the future.

Unfortunately, as much as I would love to sell the food myself, this isn't something which I can offer. I have a strong passion for good quality products which offer great value for money and this one ticks every box. However, what I can do is offer a Nutramare UK discount code: SteelCityKoi.

When you use the code SteelCityKoi at checkout on the Nutramare UK website, you are able to save £5 off each bag you have in your basket. On orders over the £200 threshold, you will also qualify for free shipping, meaning there is a substantial saving to make. I appreciate not every koi hobbyist has a reason to feed 30kg bags of koi food each season, which brings me to another key point, Nutramare food has a 2 year shelf life, meaning that unlike other foods on the market, it won't go out of date within a season.
